  • Due to the hosting service (DreamHost) telling me that my rates are going to jump 3x starting July 3rd, I'm moving the site to cheaper, more reliable hosting. If you get any 404s over the next few weeks, that's probably the problem. I'm also working on a redesign of the site to get rid of the login requirement. Secrets will be truly anonymous, and there won't be any accounts, except for administrative tasks, which only I do anyway.

Help/FAQS

Why is the screen all jumbled up?

I have tried to make the site standards-compliant, and have made every effort to make sure it looks the same in every browser, but each one has its quirks. If you're having a problem seeing the site, please use the contact form to let me know.

It would be helpful to include your browser and OS names and version numbers, and if possible, the URL of a screenshot demonstrating the problem.

Why are all of the dates on secrets set to January 1, 1970?

So far, this has only been encountered in Safari 2 on Mac OSX. If you're experiencing the problem in another browser, please use the contact form to let me know.

Safari users, this issue has been fixed in Safari 3. Until I get a Mac, I'm trying to find someone who has one to tell me if fixes work or not. Obviously, this is not an efficient process.

What's with the name?

It's a reference from Sneakers[amazon.com]. See it if you haven't seen it already.
This made much more sense when the site was named "Cooty's Rat Semen," which is an anagram for "Too Many Secrets."

How can I change my password or email address?

Waaah!! I hate the ads!

I'm not a fan of them myself, but I don't get any money from this site unless you buy something through the ads. I have tried to keep the ads small and unobtrusive, but I can't please everybody. They're an unfortunate necessity for the site to remain free.

If you want to get rid of them faster, use the contact form and let me know what you'd be likely to buy through Amazon, so I can target the ads better. If you buy things through my links, I get a percentage. If I get enough to make the site pay for itself, the ads go away. If you buy me a new, fully-loaded MacBook Pro, they go away forever.

I will promise you that there will be no pop-ups, pop-unders, or scrolly Flash bullshit. Just simple text or image ads based on the content of the site. If you see something you like, click them. If not, don't click on them.

There are plenty of ways to get rid of them, but it would be counter-productive for me to tell you. I will give you a few hints, though:

  1. Get Firefox from the link at the bottom of this page.
  2. Google
